August 31-September 7

Note to parents & guardians:
*UPDATE* - If you would like to only choose 3 words to do the dictionary portion of the LS assignment instead of all 8, that is fine & your child won't be penalized.* email me with questions.

I am adding a math page to the homework packet this week. It is from the Everyday Math series. At the beginning of each unit there is an explanation packet that tells you everything you need to know about the unit and assignments. If you match the numbers in the upper left hand corner with the information in the packet, you will find the answers to the homework pages. This is to help you help your child. You can check to see if they are understanding the concepts or not. Because we are doing packets, I will not send home every Homelink provided, so be sure to match the numbers in the corner.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Week 1 Is Done! Friday, 8/24/2012

What a great first week in third grade!

Language Studies (spelling) homework is due next Thursday 8/30/12

We have a spelling & idiom test next Friday, 8/31/12

Idiom of the Week: piece of cake -
it means: something that is easy to do

These are your child's 8 spelling words that they should know for next Friday's test:
  • twelve
  • twenty
  • thirty
  • forty
  • fifty
  • sixty
  • ninety
  • hundred
We started the homework in class & did the first two together. Students have to write a total of 10 6-digit numbers in word form using some of the spelling words. (So they have eight left to complete .)
They should underline the words that they use.

I provided a suggested homework schedule on the Language Studies sheet, but students should complete work as best accommodates your family's schedule.

The reading log squares represent 10 minutes of reading. If your child reads for 50 minutes, they should color in 5 squares. When a row is completed, parents/guardians will initial it. I don't expect rows to be completed by next Thursday. Simply return the reading record to me on Thursday & I will return it to your child again on Friday in the Homework & Information folder.
Shabbat Shalom!
