This week I am sending home an Everyday Math page. It is like a game. It requires either dice  or a deck of cards -- or you can call out numbers. Students write them down & identify place value. This shouldn't take very long. If it is challenging for your child to complete this due to the holiday, just let me know. Otherwise, it is due on next  Thursday.

Your child should continue to read & complete the reading log.

Please continue to practice the words-in-directions vocabulary from last week. (synonym/antonym, compare/contrast, describe & sequence)

Reminder: Tuesday 3rd grade has library. They are encouraged to return books they checked out last week so that they may check out new ones (or renew) this week. Books should be sent to Cheryl Miller by 9:30 on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday 9/25 is a 2:00 dismissal.
Wednesday 9/26 we don't have school.

Friday 9/14- Friday 9/21

We do not have school Monday or Tuesday.

We are not having any tests for the next month due to the holidays. I understand that you will be celebrating with your families and am only providing review work and reading logs for the next month.

This week in Language Studies, I am sending home vocabulary words that your child will see on the upcoming reading Ohio Achievement Test on Oct. 4. We will be doing activities that correspond to these words in class, and play "match-it" vocabulary in class. I am providing cards and a baggie for your child to cut out and keep to play at home as well as the word & definition list on the back of the LS worksheet.

Your child only needs to return the HI folder and reading log next Thursday. If your child has time to read and fill in the chart -- great. It's only to his or her benefit. If not, no worries. Please send it back anyway.

Please have your child review math addition and subtraction facts. We will be starting multiplication soon!

We also have Lynn Vottero the speech/language pathologist at CTA who comes in 3 Wednesdays a month to help us learn about communication skills. We are learning that communiciation takes place through talking, listening, and body/facial expressions. We also discussed THINK before you speak (is what you have to say: True Helpful Inspirational Necessary or Kind).  She is available on Wednesdays at CTA or can be reached at lynn@vottero.com if you have any further questions.

Language Studies:
The words are a review of the long a sound.  They are spelled either using an a_e or ai spelling pattern:
bake
scale
name
brave
chain
wait
pain
braid
*bonus: succeed

Students are asked to write the a_e and ai words in alphabetical order.

There will be 2 mystery words on Friday's test that each follow the spelling pattern. Students will work on these words in class.
